I hope you are having a better day than Gianni Infantino, because UEFA just pulled its 55 nations' football teams from all future FIFA competitions including the future World Cups.

UEFA wants to prevent FIFA from organising all future tournaments.
With the World Cup and the other events that their commercial entity will start organising, FIFA will decide when players and clubs are financially required to play, thereby removing the ability of local and regional organisations to continue their own competitions.
Yes, it is about money, but it is more about preventing a commercial organisation from ruining national football.

Corruption has consequences.
This is not about corruption per se. Infantino was too greedy and and did not find a way to cut UEFA mafia in.
UEFA and FIFA are joined by hip in corruption for decades. UEFA has been involved in several high-profile corruption, bribery cases.

@randahl Trump will come out saying UEFA are communists
@donamasta then he will block their Visa transactions.
-
@FlyInTheSky @elCelio @randahl I am not so sure. Quote from the statement:
" no UEFA national teams will participate in any FIFA competition for so long as these proposals remain alive, unless this proposal has been abandoned in its entirety and binding assurances have been given that FIFA will never again open its governance or competitions to private ownership."

@donamasta then he will block their Visa transactions.
@randahl @donamasta I would actually love that. Football is where a _lot_ of people draw the line.
-
@NoRestfortheWicked No worries...I don't follow sport...just my natural cynicism makes me feel it won't last. But, it might if it's women being excluded. @randahl

@randahl this strong stand sounds similar to the EU anti coersion bazooka. And how did that turn out?
They have a method. The attacks won't stop. Those standing up for something good will be vilified.

I urge Canada to join the boycott.
@kevinrns @randahl CONCACAF is rejecting the proposals wholesale. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/north-america-concacaf-rejects-infantino-world-cup-investment-plan/

@randahl
Let's wait and see. I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet.
It’s not as if the UEFA officials are all incorruptible. They might just need to sweeten the deal a bit more for Europe. And then, in the end, the whole thing will go ahead after all - perhaps under a different name or so.
If UEFA were truly a staunch defender against the selling-out of football, they would have put their foot down years ago. -

@randahl not just UEFA. It's been in the news that this proposed deal is so corrupt that it's even too corrupt for Sepp Blatter to support...
