Denver Public Gardens hold an annual worldwide competition for public gardens and zoos to see whose Victoria waterlily can carry the most weight.

Kew Garden's botanical horticulturists Aidan Pike and Martin Silnevs managed to clamber on themselves (and were held successfully as one person, less so as two...) https://www.kew.org/about-us/press-media/waterlily-weigh-off-2026

@RuthSalter One *might* believe there are giant water lilies, but I have never seen one. Far more likely: men the size of frogs. @RuthSalter My favorite part of the whole thing is that this year they introduced a a new category for native (to North America) species! Which gardens have been putting lego mini figures on instead of people.

(Also I do want to shout out the Denver Botanic Gardens, the main location is spectacular, but they also have a working farm that is also beautiful in a different way)

@RuthSalter excuse me, I was a little confused, the new category is for "feather weight" lilies not just North American species. Either way though, my favorite category.
