              OMG

              If the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), which includes the Gulf Stream, were to collapse, Aberdeen and the rest of Scotland would experience a significant drop in temperature, potentially seeing an average annual temperature change of up to -2.4°C and winter extremes of -30°C.

              i live in aberdeen which is 57.1499° N

              @Lstn2urmama, what is your latitude?

              Temperature generally decreases as latitude increases (moving from the equator towards the poles) because the Earth's curvature causes sunlight to strike at a lower angle, spreading solar energy over a wider area and requiring it to pass through more atmosphere, resulting in cooler temperatures at higher latitudes. Locations near the equator receive more direct, concentrated sunlight and are warmer, while polar regions experience cooler, more spread-out energy and greater seasonal variation in day length.

                  @Lstn2urmama

                  Canada officially uses the metric system, so Celsius (°C) is the standard for weather and general measurements, but Fahrenheit (°F) is still commonly used for ovens, baking recipes, and sometimes pools, due to US influence and historical habit, with many Canadians comfortable with both scales.

                  i thought you used Fahrenheit like America, so converted it. not that it made much difference.

                    @amiserabilist @Lstn2urmama We should all move to kelvin - now there’s a standard of measurement that REALLY knows what zero degrees means!
