@falcennial Less than once a month as a last resort I'll cave and enter a specifically worded query with requests for citations specifically including books because Internet search is not what it used to be and doesn't index old or rarely updated stuff.
@indigoparadox I miss old search too! duck duck go still has one.

@falcennial I've never "chatted" with one. I do regularly use one to assist in writing code. Does that count?
So either never or multiple times a week.
HAven't voted yet -- will do that with clarification. -
@AdamDavis agreed, those two different contexts would be more interesting as separate questions.
@falcennial
Yes, but from an environmental (maybe even ethical) standpoint, the total use is what matters. -

@AdamDavis woops, I replied in a tangential context but u feel me.

@falcennial Probably should put, not at all. But I DID try it in the beginning. Asked to compare translations of two versions of Tao Te Ching; it failed miserably (but that was a while back). Once tried to brainstorm a shop name. It wasn’t helpful in that either. So gave up and moved on. That was in 2024, I guess?

@falcennial None, if you don't count the multiple times a day that I curse Gemini back into its hole for touching the power button for a picosecond too long on my android phone.

@falcennial does “only when it’s the only way to contact customer support” count as “not at all”?

@falcennial You really need a "very rarely" option. I couldn't honestly say not at all because every once in a while I'll try something on the local Ollama install I have, just to see if I still find it disappointing, and when I inevitably do, I don't touch it for a few months again. I don't use the cloud hosted ones at all. But "a few times a month" is definitely way overstating my usage.
-
@falcennial Yeah. I'm privileged in that I don't have to use them for work, but some people are forced to, I read.
@adriano @falcennial Unwillingly yes, support services are mostly chatbot first.
-
@AdamDavis woops, I replied in a tangential context but u feel me.
@falcennial
NP. In my clumsy way, I'm trying to say this poll is valuable, even though I feel guilty for not being able to select the "never" option.I have been thinking a bit about the dubious things people will do for work which they wouldn't do on their own. So, a poll that highlights that would be interesting.

@falcennial I have never ever used or chatted with an LLM and I will keep avoiding doing so.

@falcennial Can one technically chat with an LLM?
-
@falcennial None, if you don't count the multiple times a day that I curse Gemini back into its hole for touching the power button for a picosecond too long on my android phone.
@GranVegas @falcennial you can usually (well as least I can, Samsung S25) set the side buttton long press to do something else (mine goes to the power off menu).
And I also have the Gemini App and all AI features disabled. -

@falcennial
never willing - but some websites will not put you in touch with customer service until you attempt to use their chatbot; which is never actually helpful -
@mensrea my default search! The life is so much better since I'm using it.
I wonder if there's a way to find usage stats
