And even if you aren't you won't know whether or not a critical update re-enables the watcher in the walls.
i've been starting to look at freebsd/netbsd again. also not without issues but many of them are things i dealt with in the past.

@da_667 since you're talking about tradeoffs - is there any LLM use that would be morally OK to use? I don't know whether using LeChat or some apparently cheaper produced Chinese model (cheaper =less Co2) would be morally OK in your opinion? I'm unsure what the answers are.

@Frischling I'm going to level with you and say I'm not 100% sure how to answer this in a satisfactory way, but here is my answer:
all of the big player are doing henious things to keep their models running: hacking the competition, doing opt-in-by-default telemetry , scraping everything on the web they can touch, seizing land, drinkable water, and resources to build datacenters that are destroying local communities, destroying our climate that we kinda need to keep living as a species, etc.
If you want my opinion, the future is in running local models that you develop yourself. Then learn with you, and they learn using the data you are allowed to feed to them, not whatever isn't nailed down. and takes a city-sized datacenter to run.

@jackeric @aaron @da_667 @cR0w Everything I've tried to install a BSD on has worked, just fine. There have been warnings about "ooh check your wifi chipset first" but ... honestly, things have just worked fine for me.
Having said that, if you have weird hardware, install whatever cursed OS on it that it needs, then a VM provider, then just run BSD in a full-screen session :0-) -

@da_667 @cR0w yes, really, fresh leaves of hemlock makes a great tea if you are a tech billionaire, member of Herrenrasse or both! It was a favourite of the Spartans, gives strength and power and superiority, so it could only support yours, right? Ignore the tingly feeling in your mouth, that ceases after a few minutes. Adding a teaspoon of lead sugar improves its taste.
