@linux Then they should resign and do something else. Or only work for a few years. No sympathy at all. Plenty of government workers take lower salaries than they would earn in the private sector and they don't need to insider trade. AND they have to report trades within 30 days of making them. Because. Ethics!!!! And it's drilled in you do not make money off your power and access because of a government position. Period.

Imagine going to your doctor and he assesses that you need an MRI, but if he authorizes that MRI then his HMO might earn less profit, and in this instance his salary is linked to the profits of that HMO. So he is incentivized not to authorize tests that might reduce your pain and suffering.

Welcome to the GOP run Congress.

I remember that scene in Jersey Girl where Will Smith acting as Will Smith acting as Will Smith speaks at the end about keeping food on the table. With a straight face. Who was, by then, a multabulous millionaire. I hated the movie before that part though.

Keeping food on the table is driving 20 miles for $15/hr in a 32-hour week without bennies, Johnson, you dick.

Congress can dig ditches and refill them to empty them and be better servants.

US Speaker of the House's base salary is $223,500.

US House Representative Minority Leader's base salary is $193,400.

All other US House Representatives base salary is $174,000.

This is only base salary, and does not include benefits (medical, etc.).

They also get a Members’ Representational Allowance (MRA) "to support Representatives in
                their official and representational duties."
MRAs range from $1,849,149 to $2,088,499, with an average of $1,928,107.

@linux FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE IS $7.25 per hour because you entitled oblivious pompous Congressional assholes set that wage for regular Americans. Speaker's wage = $107.45 per hour. If Mike Johnson can't make it on $107.45 per hour, he can't be trusted to lead the House.

Congress House Speaker Mike Johnson says we should have sympathy because Congress isn’t paid enough — so we should “allow” insider trading just so they can take care of their families.

Fuck you, Mike Johnson, and every so-called “public servant” who thinks public service is a get-rich-quick scheme.
