@pascaline @Nickiquote I like to imagine it's similar to the Emperor's New Clothes.
Maybe the original designer did it on purpose, maybe they didn't. But once it got presented with enough gravitas, nobody wanted to be the one to point it out. Some were too embarrassed to admit they thought that, others were driven to play along because omg flying bum! But ultimately, a whole chain of people saw it, knew exactly what they were looking at, and said "yes, that will do nicely."It is usually something like that, yes.
It's fun to think about it, but frustrating at times, too. It happens in so many fields, even in simple signs

@Nickiquote Helium filled and diesel propelled AFAICT. Helium is a nonrenewable resource and we really shouldn't be wasting it.

@Nickiquote Nobody gave this design the ten year old test.

Apparently they’re selling it for defence purposes and I, personally, cannot see any problems with relying on an enormous slow balloon the size of a football pitch in the theatre of battle.
@Nickiquote because airships were so wildly successful in WWI.

@Nickiquote How many defence planes can it carry on board? Because the past record was 5*. If it can’t beat the USS Akron why would anyone invest 🤪 (*The proper and full functionality was 4 but it could carry a 5th if need be. It simply could be a case that the 5th may need to be ejected and lost if it had a fault) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Akron?wprov=sfti1#

@Nickiquote hopefully it's not windy that day they need to, uh, defend stuff

@Nickiquote @CiaraNi I need a day without that guy. I have exceeded my lifetime dosage.
