Summer wanted to know what this whole Valentine thing is all about. I tried to explain but she said that it sounds a little sketchy to her. She loves her pal with her whole heart every day and doesn't think that giving him flowers or candy would show that more than a good cuddle.
I agree sort of but don't like to pass up an opportunity to declare my love again just in case he wonders if I'm still all in after so many years.
I think I am as clear eyed as ever about what it really means to keep love alive through the highs and lows of a lifetime together. We have enjoyed more highs than lows by far and we aren't done yet.

Thank you. As a first time dog mom I am playing it by ear. I have gotten most of my direction right here on Mastodon. Summer came to us as a loving gentle dog even at eight weeks old. Her presence has been the greatest gift to us -

#Summer #DogsOfMastodonI was discussing this with Kali and Tempi the other day. Though both are 7 years old, this is their first Valentine's Day in a household with people.
I told them that we all love each other every day, and that is shown in things like a fresh bowl of water each morning, and cuddling together on the sofa. But Valentine's Day is a special day to be a little more aware of love, and maybe do a special thing for someone you love, like slip them a little treat or give them an extra pet. They say they are both ready for a special little treat to be slipped their way.

We lost a lovely dog, half GSD, half Husky. My wife has a positively enormous clan of relatives, we were offered a puppy in exchange for running their business while they went on holiday.
My wife and I were standing outside her father's home, my emotions rubbed raw. I miserably said "If we get this GSD, we have to go training"
Training for us, the dog was sorta incidental, heh.
Best thing we ever did in the context of that dog.

... as for love and its declarations, some years ago when I first met my wife, I gave her flowers.
She cried. I grew alarmed - what had I done?
She explained to me - this was the first time a man had given her flowers.
