@MelissaBearTrix Linux is not production-ready - it's a hobby project, requiring that you always have a Mac or Windows machine running for anything serious and/or when things go pear-shaped. Ladiez.

When things go pear-shaped on a Linux machine, what you need is another Linux machine with which to write a bootable USB to fix/reinstall it with.

@argv_minus_one @jwcph @MelissaBearTrix Honestly, I've had far more trouble with Windows than I've ever had with Linux, and I once had to SSH into my machine when I accidentally removed the window system and capability for a default terminal (the screen would only show the kernel console and not take input). If you ever got to a point that Windows wouldn't boot to a usable state, you'd pretty much just have to reinstall it from scratch.

What does "go pear shaped" mean?
I mean: I guess, what it is supposed to mean ("become difficult" or "bad"), but what's the actual meaning, and why?

@StarkRG @argv_minus_one @MelissaBearTrix I hope you realize that that isn't exactly a typical experience...

@mina @MelissaBearTrix Apparently the origin of the phrase is largely unknown & pretty organic in nature - but it seems to stem, by various routes, from the idea that if your intent is a nice, perfect circle, then pear-shaped is an imperfect / sub-par / unwanted result...
