@astronomerritt My mum as well.
When I was a kid she refused to let me watch Mr Rogers because she thought he was gay. She is only concerned about such things now as she's afraid she'll say "the wrong thing" and hurt someone's feelings (usually wrt gender identity). She's never deliberately offensive, in any case.
@roknrol Yeah, my mum worries about exactly the same thing. She does say offensive things sometimes but it’s only out of genuine ignorance that they’re offensive.

my brother shaved his beard off and frankly it is going to take me a while to get used to it because we look UNCANNILY alike. it’s like looking through a mirror to an alternate universe where I have stubble and worse hair
nice to have a reminder that I only look my age due to the Tired Millennial Visage, when I slap some tinted moisturiser on to cover the uneven skin tone caused by decades of stress and dissociation total strangers apparently think I’m 25
to be fair they were slightly drunk strangers

@astronomerritt I've heard so many beautiful stories like this.
A grad school friend from Pakistan was terrified of coming out to his dad, but he went back home and did it. It didn't go super well at first.
Eventually, they were a gay/straight alliance meeting in Pakistan, and a girl there talked about being disowned by her parents.
My friend's dad said, "I'll be your dad now."
Don't know about you, but I tear up thinking about it.

anyway sorry for the spam, I had really bad signal in the pub so I was saving all those toots up
it was a fun night even if my brother’s uncannily smooth face will haunt my dreams! my dad had a moment of uncharacteristic sentimentality and said “I don’t need any of you to buy me things for my birthday, it’s just nice to have you all here”
which we promptly ruined by all four of us yelling variations of “we weren’t gonna fucking buy you anything anyway”
