Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.
@Garwboy using AI do to your work is like lifting weight with a fork lift in the gin to get results faster

@Garwboy Not eat the sandwich, but throw it straight into the toilet? Artificial intelligence is often shit.

@Garwboy it is baffling how the AI boosters miss the point at every chance they get. As if "the essay" was the point of writing.

@Garwboy I assume people who use AI to write their essays have nothing to say.

@Garwboy “Sense of accomplishment and satisfaction at overcoming a difficult or challenging task? What’s that?” - AI bros, probably.

@Garwboy If you throw them straight into the bin, the sandwich chef can also use inedible ingredients, saving even more time and money. If you throw it next to the bin instead of into it, the bin doesn't need emptying, saving even more!

@Garwboy First it was Covid causing kids to fall behind at school. Now they don’t even have to learn anything in the first place. Goodness help us when the kids grow into adults and begin to control things like the government and police.

@Garwboy It's enough to have a subscription for the gym. No need to actually go there.

@Garwboy For this metaphor I assume, that we not only go straight for the shower but do so fully clothed. We then walk soaking wet back into the gym to sit down and start bragging about the sets we did today – runing not only our chances to achieve anything but the day of anyone, who is really into fitness, too. We then proceed to eat everything but our sandwich out of the bin and hope for the “less productive people“ to fix all the mess we made.

@Garwboy This seems the basic sales line for most technology over the past few million years.
No time for the gym? Get a computer to do boring and tedious stuff in a flash!

Getting good at things is bad, actually

But you've still actually made your own sandwiches.

AI is more like:
"And if I steal somebody else's sandwiches, I can prepare my lunch in under 10 seconds."

@Garwboy AI is to writing what those meal replacement powders (like Soylent, etc) are to food: yes, technically you can live off that, and it’s faster and “more convenient”, but trust me, you don’t want that shit to replace your food. It will mess your stomach, take away your will to live and make you question your decisions (and you’ll never crave real food more than after a while with it). Yeah… no, thanks.

@Garwboy For me the joy is the workout or development process
Muscles or a app or game are just by products

@EvelynOctavia @Garwboy This is generally in reference to school essays where doing the work of transforming knowledge and research into a well formatted argument is the entire point. Taking that raw information and letting an LLM spit out an essay entirely circumvents the learning process. The teacher doesn't care about the essays, they aren't worth anything, they're going to be bad.

I was thinking more of a gym where the exercise machines would all have little electric motors on them to do the exercises very quickly and without any effort.
And in taking the lunch by parenteral without ever ceasing to work.
Everything is pure efficiency.
