    It's that time of year! 🌼 Some fun saguaro facts:
    - Saguaros do not begin blooming until they are at least 30-35 years old
    - Each flower is only open for 18-24 hours
    - Saguaros appear to flower in a counter-clockwise direction, with buds first appearing on the east side, then the north, and then the west

          @amostart Very nice! I only saw my first blooming saguaros a couple of years ago. I didn't know that about the blooms. As I recall, they opened at night and were closed by late morning?

            @elaterite yes! Although to be honest, I've seen blossoms open throughout the day as well. But I think bats are one of the primary pollinators for a lot of cactus species so opening at night is definitely more advantageous and avoids getting scorched by the sun!

                @amostart @elaterite It's interesting that there are pollinators who respond to such a fleeting opportunity. They have to make a living the rest of the year too, so what makes that particular flower so attractive for that brief time?
