What are we calling the grief we have for technology, and for the arts, and for knowledge? 'Climate grief' somehow captures quite a lot in one phrase, but 'techno grief' does not work.

I was thinking about how much I used to love tech, its promise, the creativity of online spaces, all that knowledge at my fingertips. That tree of knowledge strung with lights has been set alight. That whole garden of wisdom is being torn up and buried under toxic waste.

@artemis 'Climate grief' works because the damage is real and will take very long to recover.

"techno grief" doesn't work because technology isn't gone. What is gone is optimism and freedom, replaced by technocapitalism's imperatives.

In this iteration we are losing the idea gift economies and many other knowledge systems that we made for ourselves.

"technoculture" -> "technocapital" so I think that "Cultural grief" or "knowledge culture grief" works better though they feel a bit too broad.

@artemis Sounds like a specific kind of weltschmerz. Techschmerz, perhaps?

@jmopp @joannaholman @artemis @urlyman If you call yourself a futurist you know that what you projected in the past was just one if the many futures. Other futures are more probable today. To look for the reasons of that development and understanding that will help you how to project another great future with what you have learned about technology throughout the years.
