Matrix is open source company chat aaand it's no longer a viable alternative

"the fact that Matrix was accompanied by a for-profit entity, funded by venture capital was the biggest mistake that Matrix as a project has ever made."

front page of site is all defense sales

@davidgerard why is #simplex anti recommended, I don't agree with the founders views either I think theyre dangerous but can't we just run our own relay servers and moderate them how we like? In terms of the protocol I don't think there is any messenger more secure against state adversaries

@ambiguous_yelp didn't Simplex implement part of the Signal protocol but stripping some encryption features for no coherent reason?

the trouble with fashtech is this tendency to take something that is almost just right then put a control mechanism in, and this is yet another example

it's fine that one could hypothetically setup a non-fash relay and fork #simplex to be able to select this relay on initial setup.

however, since that hasn't happened yet, you're recommending "anti-vaxx, believing COVID-19 was a hoax, trans- and homophobia, climate denial" chat app.

let's not downplay fascism as merely "views."

I went looking for the problematic views of the #Simplex governing body you described and was able to find a very lucid response to fearmongering by Wired.com:

            https://simplex.chat/blog/20241016-wired-attack-on-privacy.html

So far nothing else turned up that raised my suspicion.
Could you point me in a direction to look deeper into this?

ok the xitter acc of #Simplex founder is indeed a hellhole:

do you know who else is involved in the project?

                on another note:
isn't #Tor also used by various unsavoury people while providing the network for private internet?
should we fork it for this reason just to see the same people migrate to a new (and better) platform?

the difference here is that SimpleX is
made by an asshole, whereas Tor is used by assholes.
