    @ketan

    Never mind Britain's outlook is cooling, not warming, in the event that the AMOC stops:

    "A shutting down of the AMOC is expected to trigger substantial cooling in Europe,[163][164] particularly in Britain and Ireland, France and the Nordic countries.[165][166]"
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_meridional_overturning_circulation#Cooling

    In other words, getting the climate of Canada, which shares latitude with most of Europe. (Barcelona shares latitude with New York city.)

      @albertcardona @ketan my understanding is that the climate would destabilise essentially leading to really cold winters and really hot summers (like the one we are currently enjoying 🙃🙃). Excess heat deaths in the summer, excess cold deaths in the winter and no crops that will actually grow. What a future!

        @svines @ketan

        The tragedy is indeed the loss of predictable weather for reliable agriculture. But what can be expected from a country that decided to leave the EU when 50% of its food came from the EU in the first place.

              @svines @albertcardona @ketan yes that's my understanding too. Most of Japan north of Tokyo (at least on the sea of Japan coast and Hokkaido) gets summers up to 40c and lots of snow in the winter. It used to get the snow but not the 40c summers. But also the snow is less predictable, comes late delaying the skiing season. Sometimes metres fall in a couple of days etc.

                @albertcardona @ketan unfortunately (?) this is likely to take as long to happen as sea level rises, so perhaps 100 years.

                It is very unpredictable though so we can still hope.

                It seems more likely to happen than rebuilding all our housing to Mediterranean standards.

                  @ketan Such dangerous baboons should be sent to the front line in France or Spain fighting fast approaching wild fires.

                  Maybe we will get to a point where critically ill informed judgements broadcast by those with access to the public ear get duly punished.

                  Imagine 3 strikes and you are out for Trump on just the simple matter of truthful statements...

                    @ketan his reasoning is as sound as:" Britain can't prevent murder worldwide so should abandon prohibiting murder altogether." Sure dude.

                      @ketan it’s this is an attitude that I encountered first 20 odd years ago and it shook me to the core. A politician at a local talk said ‘by 2100 London will have the climate of Marrakesh’ and 30 seconds of pondering that made me realise that the UKs wildlife would be destroyed by that amount of change and probably its population too. But this was presented in a breezy way like it was just a fact and everyone just sat there. My first taste of cognitive dissonance.

                        insane.

                        So rebuild every home, totally change the entire agriculture structure, or does he mean mean rich in villas and the rest of us fry?

                          Britain can't stop #AllisterHeath from eventually dying at some point. Chop his head off and let him embrace decapitation.
