@aeva you can also read what I make, which is not interesting, but it's still better than slop
@efi i'd be happy to
-
as it happens, there's also plenty of people who care and give a shit, so i don't think i'm going to run out of interesting new media either
@aeva true

@aeva you can visit my webpage for the old stuff, if you had missed that

@aeva we thought we’d lose a medium but in fact we just gained an excellent filtering keyword for discovery

"it's here to stay! you can't get rid of it! stop dreaming of a better world!"
buddy, if i only read books, played games, and listened to music published before this decade, i would never run out of interesting and compelling works of art to feed my mind with. I don't *have* to buy anything you people make.
The hero stands at the precipice of the world. Upon seeing it's breadth, it's glories, it's failures all running back to a single point in time the hero says, "This is enough."

@aeva drowning in peoples' work I need to read in this writing community I'm in. I could probably get months of reading out of that backlog. (edit: and the stuff people are constantly writing and releasing there, I should add)

@aeva About a year ago I recall posting smth like "If you dedicated your entire life to beating every video game made until today, you would never be able to finish the task."
So, yeah. I will never be playing anything AI-generated. I haven't even touched the Sega console library, and I could find 10,000 niche precision platformer games I've never opened "^^

@aeva being someone that's mostly just consuming old media (partly out of dissatisfaction with current media, partly because the past has been a childhood obsession). it's pretty easy to end up in a melancholy state by essentially being stuck in the past. after a while it just makes you wish you were at that place in time. it really isn't a fun feeling -

I still have an ever growing backlog of books, movies, and great bands that I never heard of before.
And if I hear someone new live and I like them, I’ll go buy their album. Never a need for slop.

@aeva This is the thing that really gets me; the promise of making things quicker and higher fidelity with LLMs ignores that we can just not buy the thing you make in the end.
In a similar fashion to how we can still go watch "Low-fidelity" theatrical performances of, say, Romeo and Juliet, because our kids are acting in it.
We don't go to those performances because they were done quickly and with all the bells and whistles of "high fidelity" movies; we go to them because we know people are in the performances.
