"You can see why I’m not really swayed when “serious” cyclists tell me e-bikes are for lazy people who don’t want to put in the work. I am now a serious cyclist, and I don’t know that I would be, if I hadn’t been able to start with the e-bike. And now the e-bike doesn’t replace my regular bike. It replaces my car." @rebeccawatson on #ebikes https://skepchick.org/2025/12/e-bikes-arent-the-problem/

@rebeccawatson @afewbugs if the racing cyclists were serious they would have an old steel framed bike with no gears. Gears and carbon fibre bikes is making THEM lazy.
Obviously commuters and casual cyclists can ride what they like or is appropriate for conditions.

@afewbugs e-bikes are cromulent. Great way to get some exercise in, and weans people off the car. I don’t have one (who would cycle in Bangkok! That’s a horrible idea), but if I lived somewhere cyclable I’d definitely consider getting one

@afewbugs @rebeccawatson My dad used to cycle kinda lot when he was younger, but stopped due to knee pain. Now, after many years, he got an e-bike, and says he's found the joy of cycling again.
