I can read this article from Cornell though, and it does more to verify than invalidate this story.

@nogodsnomasters I have heard stories of elderly people in the US robbing banks for small sums just to go to prison for the provided healthcare, though that says more about the healthcare system.

Alternatively, if we took a 15 year's sentence to be the standard for stealing $100, then the executive who stole $3B should get a 30,000,000 year sentence.
Yeah, a 30 million year sentence would be the executive being treated the same as the homeless man.

@nogodsnomasters white collar vs violent crime. He robbed a bank at, what seemed to the teller as, gunpoint. That he only took $100 is inconsequential.

@failedLyndonLaRouchite @stuartb @SeanPLynch @nogodsnomasters Yes, the homeless guy robbed a bank which probably caused trauma and emotional stress for the people involved. Was it more than $3 billion worth of stress? If not then it should have been less than the white collar criminal's sentence. Or the white collar criminal's sentence should have been increased to 15 years.

@toriver @nogodsnomasters I'm honestly surprised that they don't charge for prison so that you end up indebted after you get out. Seems like a natural progression for capitalism.
