I just googled something and Google put its AI summary top, which incorrectly used a Facebook post - misinterpreting it.

In the old days, 6 degrees of separation was gold standard.

@engideer @sraars @GossiTheDog
No! You can turn all AI features off in Kagi, and even if you do ask for an AI summary it must be a deliberate action.
Plus their AI responses are heavily referenced with links to sources so you can verify. It's a very different (and refreshing) experience from Google.

@bradbury @GossiTheDog
Please avoid sarcasm. The AI doesn't understand it.I can confirm that AI have trouble with sarcasm. Last time I tried being sarcastic to an AI I took a screenshot of its response.

To do internet searches without getting that annoying #AIsummary (which usually makes for one more useless thing to scroll through to get to the links you want to see, and which wastes a large amount of electricity every time), you can add a simple bit of text at the beginning or end of your search query.
Type “hyphen AI” at the start or end of any search query to not get that annoying AI summary at the top of your search results (which usually makes for one more useless thing to scroll through to get to the links you want to see, and which wastes data center electricity every time).
For example:
-ai Names of all four Beatles
**OR**
Names of all four Beatles -ai#AIprompts #GoogleTricks #AIsummaries #AI #GoogleSearching #GoogleSearch #InternetSearch #SearchEngines #Searches #Googling #AvoidingAI #NoAI
For a while I used https://www.google.com/search?q= &udm=14 to avoid the AI responses. Later I switched to https://www.ecosia.org/ which at least for now does not use AI by default.

@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social the search equivalent of that Garfield "why do they call it oven when you of in the cold food of out hot eat the food" meme

@GossiTheDog I find it hard to judge people who use ChatGPT, Gemini, or other AIs as a Search Engine, because the average Search Engine uses just as much (if not more) AI, and at this point it's certainly NOT more environmentally friendly to use Google compared to ChatGPT, Claude, etc.
@JabicZF @GossiTheDog I find it remarkably easy to judge them. AI is killing society.

🤯 "AI inception! Sounds like AI summarized AI summarized AI and it went full circle into nonsense

Doesn't exactly pass the proverbial Six Sigma test.

Just in case somebody is reading this and doesn't know: https://noai.duckduckgo.com.
@khleedril sometimes for grins I search on Google to see how its results compare to the results in DuckDuckGo - and the difference is usually striking. Google #JumpedTheShark

@phwolfe940 Google jumped the shark when they dropped the "Do no evil" byeline. It has been a rubbish company ever since.

@GossiTheDog That's why I use AI free DuckDuckGo. No AI slop or hallucinations. Just the web as it should be.

@AnneTheWriter1 @thomkennon @GossiTheDog Or, even better, change your default search engine! #Startpage, for example, gives you non-personalised results retrieved from Google and comes without AI. According to their privacy policy they don't track every search you do, unlike #Google!
Remember: If you use Google, any identifiers like a login to your Google Account will be used by Google to link all of your search prompts to you! And most of Android users are logged in to their Google account on their device.#Metager can also be recommended in case you are willing to pay a small amount. And there are even more search engines...
