70.5% of Starbucks baristas are women. Starbucks now requires them to perform additional emotion labor by writing a personal message on customers' cups. If not sufficiently nice, they are disciplined. They must perform friendliness but make it look spontaneous. https://qz.com/emotional-labor-starbucks-baristas-green-apron-service-051926
@amydiehl I was only once persuaded by family to join them in a Starbucks. I asked for a small, plain black coffee. I was told we have only large. I asked how big is 'large', and was duly shown the cup. I said 'I will not drink out of a piss pot' turned around and left, with the family reluctantly behind me.
The family have never forgiven me.
Starbucks? I couldn't care less. -
@RedKoba @tml @monokeros @ianto_jones @michaelgemar @amydiehl I was actually using numbers from Wikipedia...
@quixoticgeek @tml @monokeros @ianto_jones @michaelgemar @amydiehl
I love Wikipedia, but that calculation includes things like dekulakisation, which was a man-made starvation caused by landlords preferring to let people starve to death rather than lose their wealth.Wikipedia is good source but not bulletproof

"Smile-More" forced labor.
Starbucks is wunna those things most humans have determined should exist no matter how much they profess to hate going in every. Fucking. Day. Sometimes thrice.
They can absolutely be closed for good by the same people.
Coffee tastes better when you support a local business.
Starbucks cups make your hand look like it's holding a politician's dick to me. No matter what's written on them. -
@RedKoba @tml @monokeros @ianto_jones @michaelgemar @amydiehl so how many deaths is it ok for a nations leader to be responsible for? Might I suggest the number should ideally be zero. Capital punishment is bad. Genocide is bad. It's 2026, I can't believe I'm having to say this.
@quixoticgeek @tml @monokeros @ianto_jones @michaelgemar @amydiehl
No one, but there is people that the world is a better place if they are dead, Staling do a lot of things wrong but send landlords and facist a forced work camps wasn't one of them -

@RedKoba @tml @monokeros @ianto_jones @michaelgemar @amydiehl it's all on Stalin's balance sheet. He killed millions. This is the popular consensus of historians. I would suggest it's time to find a better roll model. Maybe one who's not considered a genocidal dictator.

Who gives who the right to have someone killed ?

@RedKoba @amydiehl @quixoticgeek The problem isn’t autism — I know plenty of neurodivergent folks who are lovely.
The problem is psychopathy and narcissism.
@michaelgemar
@RedKoba @amydiehl @quixoticgeek
psychopathy is a deprecated term in psychiatry and narcissism could be used to refer to a personality disorder (although it isnt always) so you are still making a judgment on forms of neurodivergence albeit ones that are commonly considered "worse" on some level.the problem is capitalism itself, which is a mode of production and a resulting social system. if every capitalist was perfectly mentally healthy and neurotypical it wouldnt change the fact that capital depends on the exploitation of labor to extract surplus value, and thus all capitalists are guilty of exploitation.

@redrozalia @michaelgemar @RedKoba @amydiehl totally agree. But we will not build a better world by throwing neurodivergent people under the bus in our quest to overthrow capitalism.

@RedKoba fortunately I live somewhere with descent gun control. So it's not something I have to worry about.

@quixoticgeek
@michaelgemar @RedKoba @amydiehl
indeed, the only way to build a better world for neurodivergent people is to overthrow capitalism, and part of that means having a correct analysis of how capitalism works and not just blaming it on capitalists being "stupid and evil" (which i think "autistic" is code for in this case, eugh) -
@Epic_Null @quixoticgeek @michaelgemar @amydiehl
Don't get me wrong, the autistic part was of the stereotype about being unable to understand other humans. We all know Sheldon Cooper is not real but that's how is portrayed in the collective imagination
This collective imagination is the problem and you should not feed it. That's why mentioning autism in this context is problematic, too.
