I was sure I was "gen Y", and that it was distinct from "millenials" but it seems not.
So Millenial here, but as I'm in France and everything is shifted, I see some similarities with gen X too.It was Gen Y afaik, followed by Gen Z(oomer).
Not sure why it changed, maybe a millennium thing?

@thordis Fediverse DOES have a network of smaller Gen Z servers
but they tend to be Queer or Furry focused. and occasionally Game Development
they are also quite insular for valid reasons, and I'm certainly not going to list a bunch so everyone can go bother their users
but they are with us. you just need to move in the correct circles and they will pop up to make you feel ancient

I believe such divisions of people merely by decade was a tool for western Advertising agencies. It stereotypes people, devalues them and ignores the many differences between people even in the same culture and "class". It's dishonest and misleading. -

@thordis Late Gen X/early Millennial. I remember Chernobyl and Challenger, but wouldn't have if I had been much younger. I get the best and the worst of both worlds in many ways.

@Walrus Just age groups. But you're right, it's not very diverse in terms of species. (Although I am very happy to be currently seeing quite a lot of cats.)
I think those age groups are a bit silly, as they assume people in the oldest one have no idea how to work a computer, or us any new technology.
But here, we get cats and even more importantly (for some) Spaniels.
