@lumakestuff take it slow, i think it takes longer to find a clique or scene here as it does on other platforms because there really isnt so much algorithm driving. start in hashtags, follow ones you like (you can follow hashtags!) then once you find a few accounts you like you can start to find more connections through that. it takes time, be patient and try not to let how different it is put you off too much, it took me a while to get used to posting main here after quitting twitter.

@lumakestuff Put in a term to search. Then you can look at the profiles, hashtags, or posts that have that. You can follow the ppl, or the hashtags.

Likewise, if you want to filter, go into your settings and set up filtering lists.

Game dev?

The following are some foundational game devs here and, stux even runs a Pixelfed instance for photography! Check it out.

Note that aeva and eniko are both on gamedev.place. Its a whole instance set up for game devs! I'd encourage you to check that out or anyone who is on that server. You're on a pretty big public instance, so you're going to get conversation from all sorts. Make sure to use your filters and follows so you can build your feed the way you like! Mastodon.social can be a little overwhelming without tools to help you focus.

Mastodon has a concept of interest group instances where a bunch of people with a similar background get together. And they talk about more than just gamedev or whatnot! But that's a sort of thread behind all the users there.

If you ever have a mind to migrate your account, keep an eye on where users you like and trust tend to hang out, that's usually a good sign that the place where they hang out is cool Plus the smaller instances are a little more chill, and you can still read about what is happening in the big servers. This part does take some getting used to. Feel free to explore though!
