It is hard for me to modulate an appropriate level of intensity to respond to stuff like this because the amount of pressure being brought to bear by leaders (both in the business world and in the tech community) is so intense that it’s abusive.

And the arguments of public intellectuals attempting to stake out “moderate” positions are absolutely being used as rationalizations for ruining people’s livelihoods and wrecking businesses. Causing measurable harm as well as subjective human misery.

@glyph really sick of seeing "mmm but the people with none of the power who are criticizing this stuff are doing it too loudly/intensely/hysterically" tbh.
hey maybe people in tech who should know better have fully abandoned their duty to think through this critically, actually.

Cory made what is arguably a small error in an otherwise good piece. But as I talk about it I can’t help but see the impact of that mistake get magnified and exploded downstream as it will be distorted by bad-faith actors. So his portion of the blame is quite small, but, all those other decisions are going to happen behind closed doors and if I even find out about them, which I doubt, I wouldn’t be able to say anything. So this is where my vitriol lands, deserved or not.

@glyph Appropriate levels of intensity, of I'm assuming fury, at me?
I'm agreeing with you, Glyph!
These fucking "leaders," all of whom should know better but have opportunistically jumped on this bandwagon that has, inter alia, destroyed the entire tech sector, should be hauled out into the public square an put in the pillory.
I want these utter fuckwits to have their undeserved reputations ruined. I want them driven out into the wilderness and never welcomed back into the fold.

@prietschka no, not at all! I am also agreeing with you. you pointed out an unwarranted level of intensity; and yeah, maybe I was unduly intense. I tried to keep things calm and tactful but that was at the ceiling of calm and tact I can manage.
