@hpod16 I thought there are plenty of Europeans here. Presumably everybody here has tried at one point or another to mention the Fediverse to their friends. Who have then ignored it because it's not what they already have on their phones. And it's probably the same everywhere. So specifically *Europeans* I don't know. People all over? Keep telling them that the big fascists run the big "social" websites. Until they maybe finally listen.

thanks for sharing your views! I have to admit this is also not my first attempt at the fediverse... That said this time I think I'll stay. 
Also: I say Europeans because I work for the EU - so that's my personal focus. I want our EU institutions to reach EU citizens, be it here or elsewhere. But of course the fediverse is and should be global. -

@hpod16 Just noticed your occupation... well, if we could make the EU bosses understand that the fediverse and mastodon is a truly democratic and free social media, that would be awesome
It has no single company profiting from it. Everyone can host their own server, if they want to. Or join what server they want to. There's no need for a "W" copy of X. -

If you had to crystallise it in one sentence, what’s the best thing about posting on Mastodon?@hpod16 I would say it’s the most human social media, no algorithm, we are the algorithm, so it’s transparent, genuine and slower

I'm not saying Cvria is the
of EU institutions, but that's exactly what I'm saying.

@der_schrank that depends on how the buttons is built technically. A "share on Mastodon" button does not necessarily work for other Fediverse software. I know that there are currently multiple technical implementations of these sharebuttons across the internet, and some work for users of for example Sharkey, but others only work for Mastodon users. Not sure which is true for the EU Comm ones.
@nitrml @der_schrank mhhh I wasn’t aware of this complication… how would I test out how this share button works?

@gelbphoenix @hpod16 @karlos It's sad how this is an aspect of the Web - and also of the Internet - that ends up having to be highlighted an explained in 2026.
But that's the point we're at, where a bunch of commercial services make it easy not to be aware of what the Internet actually is.
(But hey, explaining it at least opens the door to mentioning another very nice thing: open protocols!)
