Solidarity with Comrade Bill
The Ferguson's Gang was a kind of self-appointed preservation society from the mid 1900's in England. Their leader took the nom de guerre "Bill Stickers."
I had no idea about any of this until few moments ago. History is fun.

@pluralistic i love how old that gag is, i think “Bill Stickers is innocent” was the first ‘joke’ graffiti i saw. still a gem
@Paperposts I may have found it! (See my response lower in the thread.

@pluralistic Long ago, I read a Bill Stickers poem, probably in some anthology, and could not find any reference to it in a search just now. From memory, the poem went something like this:
"Bill Stickers Will Be Prosecuted"
The evening papers run
But the thing I want to know
Is what's Bill Stickers done?Anyone recognize this or know the source?

@MattMerk @pluralistic my hometown of Somerville, MA, is covered in stickers on utility boxes and so forth. my favorite read

@_the_cloud @pluralistic I remember it, or something very similar, but probably from about 40 years ago, so I've no memory of where it's from.

Not searched hard nor found much, but Spike Milligan could have come up with that...

@_the_cloud @pluralistic Isn't it usually "Bill Posters"? You might have more luck searching with that.
