    @wakame @cwebber My instance apparently lacks the blobcat explosion gif emoji, so you'll just have to imagine it instead of this reply.

    Myth: Don't let children play with radium, because it's bad for their health.

    Fact: Sunlight also causes cancer, but parents still let their children play outside.

      @cwebber this so much
      I've been looking at this report that came out the other way, and the section 2.2.2 about batteries alone just makes me feel like the world isn't horribly broken for once

        @wakame @cwebber Aren't they both facts?

        I'm not sure if anyone has done the maths on the risk of solar exposure vs benefits, and comparison with alternatives that provide similar metabolism benefits.

          Yes, but the whole format, while technically containing truths, it practically made to sell lies.

          Myth: We don't put radium in toothpaste anymore, because it is radioactive.

          Fact: Bananas are also radioactive, but you don't see warning labels on them.

                          @wakame @cwebber @lispi314 if it starts glowing blue, you might just be fucking the DNA of everyone on the same block as you to the point cancer stops being the main concern.

                                @cwebber It's a great story and gives me hope too, esp. the surprising speed at which solar has developed the last decade. One caveat: Source of electricity generation! The cheapest source of energy is still fossil if you take fuels into account, a major part of our total energy consumption.
