@henry Well, not all of the horse. Their asses are, however, in charge of the US government currently.

For far to many people, the "point of going to school" is to be sorted into the bin where you get guaranteed high income.
Like, none of the actual education matters, it's the sorting, which means grades and things.
I always kind of knew this, but it really hit home when my terrible summer session decision theory class at USC had some masters student do a decision analysis on which luxury car his daddy should buy him when he graduated.

@henry @mhoye what we need to see now is Maslow's hierarchy of equine needs.
Oh hmm, searching that ended up with a result. https://www.chrisfortehorsemanship.com/archives/510
And now I want to read this study: https://thebhc.org/decline-and-fall-horse
The US had 20m horses in 1915, and has 6.65m today (estimate via wikipedia), so, "whatever they want?"

@henry There is an perfect proverb in Germany: "Überlass den Pferden das denken, die haben einen größeren Kopf." roughly translated as "let the horses think, they have a bigger head". He could have said nothing and people might think he is a moron. But he chose to speak and now everyone knows he is...

@henry My great-granddad's business was breading and selling draft horses. He went bankrupt. My granddad had to move to the city and became a truck driver: his job was to take horses to the abattoir...

@henry this AI bro should’ve used pigeons instead of horses, they are definitely free to crap on everything, including this AI bro. I’m somewhat unsure he likes to be crapped on
I’m not judging anyone’s kinks

@henry I'd like to know when's the last time he saw a horse in real life.

@henry If I understand correctly, "whatever they want" was often "being butchered for food"

@flq @Doomed_Daniel @phf @jef @henry Soylent Green is, well, you know...
You know what I really hate? Gangs of horses hanging out at the cafe all day, hogging all the tables and pooping all over the floor, because they have nowhere better to be.
@maccruiskeen @flq @Doomed_Daniel @phf @jef @henry
Oi! I was going to do the Soylent Green jokes today!

@henry What is this guy taking & why isn't he sharing?
-
@henry This isn't as much true. Horses keep being breed by humans, used in races and steaks. The hard lesson is that humans don't return anything to nature, not even themselves.
The clear example is industrial revolution, after which humans haven't been freed from work, but just advanced to new forms of slavery.
Note that I'm truly convinced about the good from technological advances: I just see that humans, on average, can't change for good. The solution is beyond my humble comments.@luc0x61 @henry Someone above mentioned the rock dove or “homing pigeon” that is probably the only example of “returning to the wild” that was relatively successful and rather invasive
(but hey, at least they can survive urban cities better than most species
) . Before the invention of the telegraph and a secure messaging system (no telegraphs weren’t entirely secure
) pigeons were the fastest form of communication (I don’t know if this makes you feel any better

@henry
FYI:
There's one horse in our family network. His life is mostly spent in a horse cubical & yes we can call that freedom.
