    Does anyone else hate the Speed of Light?

    It's so lame. We can never zip around and visit a million planets just because of some stupid hardcoded limit that they arbitrarily put in because the devs refuse to optimize their engine to handle faster travel.

    @existentialcomics
    I see it more as a pact with the devil: you can get everywhere instantly, but a lot of time would have passed for everyone else.

      @existentialcomics Relativity is proof we don’t live in a simulation: no programmer would want to run a simulation where time ticks were not only nonuniform, but depended on speed and local energy density. It’s all race conditions.

      @ThreeSigma @existentialcomics There can't ever be proof cause everything we know bout simulations n programming n such's based on how those work in this universe. For all we know it's really easy'a handle those sorta things in the real world but this universe's simulateda make't look hard. It's also a good counterargument for y the "human batteries wouldn't work cause conservation of energy" argument doesn't really work against the Matrix, cause physics within the Matrix could work differently than physics outside the Matrix (n given the Matrix's designed by machines who'd wanna do everything so humans believe it's not a simulation, it kinda makes sense they would be different, no?)

        @existentialcomics I still think that the Alcubierre Drive does not violate causality. Currently mars is 16 light minutes away and say for shit and giggles your Warp drive can go 16 times as fast as light you still need 2 minutes for a round trip and at no point you traveled backwards in time.

        Also thanks to Solitons and some funky math we apparently dont need exotic matter or negative energy for it to work and only prohibitive energy cost(1% of the suns mass per sec.) limit the practicality.

          Cut them some slack. Keeping the whole universe synchronised is tough. Distributed consistency is a hard problem.

                @existentialcomics fwiw I live in a city that has 300,000 restaurants. At three meals per day, it would take me 278 years.

                  @existentialcomics I never understood the speed of light. Speed is always relative to something. So... how does that work on a galactic scale, with things moving towards each other?

                        @tanith @existentialcomics
                        1) It was a joke.
                        2) Of course you can't prove it's not a simulation. It's solipsism. You can't prove that the universe isn't a drug induced hallucination I'm having. You similarly can't prove that we're being fooled by superintellegent beinds and we're just brains in vats.
                        3) Because it is equivalent with those stupid theories, I think it's a stupid theory.

                            @existentialcomics You're stuck on the material plane. If you go up a couple of dimensions, you can traverse the entire universe with ease.

                              @aanee It's an observed fact that the speed of light is the same for everyone, no matter how they're moving. The only way to explain that observation is that the geometry of space and time is not what our everyday experience suggests. Instead of the Euclidean geometry of space alone that we learn in school, it's a Lorentzian geometry of space and time together, where it's *geometrically* impossible to go faster than the speed of light.
