Rebuilding both law enforcement and imprisonment ab initio is a good idea. The USA removing the exemption for federal prisoners from slavery protection would be structurally difficult, and neccessary. -

Idk, if there is an english word, but in german we call corrupt cowards "Mitläufer".
They claim, they don t have a head / brain, which protected them from running with the Nazis.
Most of them were "centrists". (Fun Fact: Weimar Germany had a christian party: "Zentrum"). After the war they became centrists again (CDU). If they survived Nurnberg-Trials.
The ones, who are not willing to choose have a name: "Mitläufer".

They come in different flavours. You have your moral cowards, your lazy, your opportunists, your already comfortable (in the uk these are known as "The I'm alright jacks"), your mediocre machivellis and your far-right-if-only-we-could-get-the-far-right-results-without-people-thinking-im-a-bad-persons.
It's important to identify and catalogue their species so you know what treatment works best.

@danwentzel I was just commenting to my spouse last night that I’m shocked by the media calling the Michigan Democratic Senate candidate “far left.” 50 years ago he would have been mainstream Republican. But I’m old. My hope lies with the young folk.

@danwentzel It's completely bonkers - the "coming for your freedom!" far-left never, ever existed in the US, except as a right-wing boogieman, and yet most Americans are more afraid of this complete fabrication than anything fascists could possibly do, including to themselves, and will never cast their vote that way.
Basically, the average American would rather be concentration-camped by jackbooted stormtroopers wearing red, white & black uniform patches than risk reform to the labor market.
