@ObsidianUrbex I love love love this! In that first pic, I'm thinking I'm looking at the space between two boilers, so I'm now wondering how many boilers this location had. -

@ObsidianUrbex The second picture shows the broadside of one boiler; the first mezzanine off the floor is where the slag is funneled to the slag tank standing on the floor and in the foreground on the right has got to be where the circulation pumps are located.
The slanty pipe in the upper center has got to be the fuel channel where the crushed coal is fed to the fire.What's odd is that I can't discern where the air ductwork would or should be. On a universal pressure boiler you'd have blowers blowing in and blowers blowing exhaust out, but such things weren't implemented in the 1950s.
The pipes on the left carry steam off to be re-heated to superheat and then delivered to a turbine.

@ObsidianUrbex The third picture is pretty well self-explanatory--I'll only add that somewhere down that dual conveyor line is a device measuring how much coal is delivered per minute so that the boiler is fed in a steady manner. In pic 1 I saw 2 boilers; in the third I see two belts, and in the 4th pic I see two flashtanks, so my bet is that this location had only two boilers, total. What's amazing is that it stayed in operation clean through the year 2000. Those coal chutes and boiler tubes must have been a major bitch to keep maintained. -

Have to say that the visions of future, with mega corporations ruling the world, has been well guessed. Same is for William Gibson's Neuromancer saga. These places fit very well, as much as our society. -
