I don't think our reaction should be shock or wondering what's going on in Scotland.

I don't think our reaction should be shock or wondering what's going on in Scotland. I think it should be... well, if there's 50 in Scotland, there's probably 1000 in England. But no one's asking.

Just a reminder that there is no power structure in existence in which members of it don't abuse their positions. Not a one.

Madeline, I made a joke on a post that I take seriously. Sorry about that. Scottish police abuse women. Police are abusive. Thank you for posting this. And you're right, when 50 police officers in Scotland are doing this how many cops in the UK are abusing women (men & kids) too? That's a really good point.

@Remittancegirl they should ask, but that would mean someone in Englandshire should have to take responsibility by looking into it.
"I don't see it, it didn't happen." That's the English way...

What I am trying to express is that there is no group who holds power with impunity in which there are no members who abuse that power. I'd love to say that women never abuse their power (when they have it, which is not nearly as often as men). But history shows this is not true.
Some people are indeed abused by their mothers. I've seen it. I've met them. I cared for one who ended up with an almost fatal case of anorexia because of it.

Indeed the tragedy is that people who are victims of abuse of power often feel the only way to survive and thrive is to become abusive of their power in turn, because that is the model they've been taught.

@knittingdyke I'm really sorry to hear that. That scars for life. Sending you warm hugs. @FranceskaMann

It's just time we stopped fantasizing about some ideal structure of authority in which abuse doesn't occur.
Let us instead acknowledge its inevitability and make the cost of that abuse so astronomically high and public that it serves as an inhibitor.
