So, #mastobrain, to get me rolling: If I would like to try out a couple of different #Linux'es (you're never getting me to use that D word), do I need to buy a bunch of USB sticks to put each one on?

    - or can I just partition a 1TB harddrive I already have & boot a different version from each partition...?

    - or just keep a bunch of disk images on it & boot from them?

@jwcph if you want to try out a lot without having to install each one, distrosea dot com let's you try a ton of Linux's for free and without an account. It connects you to a virtual machine with your Linux choice from your browser. Its pretty cool!

@Shirley Thanks for the tip! I'm probably going to want to test them a bit more than through a browser for a bit - but it looks like a good place to explore & choose what I want to try... 😊

@jwcph If you actually intend to use many distros many USB sticks may be simplest, but using Ventoy on your 1 Tb drive is simple for just trying out a bunch of distros. You can then decide if Ventoy works as a permanent arrangement.
Running virtual machines also works, but I find Ventoy more convenient.

@jwcph This looks really convenient for someone who does a lot of distro shopping, but I haven't actually tried it:

@zillion Yeah, I'm not going to click an Amazon link - what is it?

@zillion I understood none of that, or how it does what I'm trying to do - but I can tell the effort so thanks for that 😁

@jwcph Basically, it's a disk-drive case with built-in software so that you can select any iso on it and it pretends to be a cd drive with the corresponding cd in it. That way, you can just choose any live cd distro on the disk and run it directly. It does a bit more, and is also usable as a regular external disk drive, but that's the gist.

@zillion Thank you for the run-down 🙏 so if I'm getting this right, this is a rig specifically set up to do basically what Ventoy does with a regular external drive...?
