@burnitdown @therivercrow (almost definitely not it, but I'm open to surprises)

So, my uni women's rowing club decided to restrict membership to cis women only. In response, a new "open" division was created that anyone can compete in.
Lots of women left to join the open division instead, and now the women's club are complaining about losing their best rowers.
Be transphobic, lose support.
That's the conses of your quences, folks.
@therivercrow welp...

@therivercrow I hope this happens EVERYWHERE. Please and thank you.

@therivercrow@wandering.shop Love to hear it

@therivercrow I have to say, I absolutely love the "conses of those quences." It's beautiful to see.
@floofpaldi @therivercrow agreed.

@therivercrow
Apparently this is also happening on a national level with US women's rugby, so it's part of a broader trend that is awesome to see. -

@therivercrow Now the ones that remained are the Rowling club.
I'll see myself out.

@therivercrow my experience in the sports that I've done with any level of seriousness is
women would generally prefer to compete against everyone, and finish in the middle of the pack (or even lower)
than be at the "top" of women-only divisions
ALL athletes like to push themselves against the best competition, and care more about how other athletes see them than some result in the newspaper

@burnitdown @therivercrow This is the best I could come up with on short notice:
nugati/iocati sunt, poenas dederunt/luerunt
("they joked/fooled around, they paid the penalty")
Not very vulgar but yeah. The spirit of it at least. -
@ASprinkleofSage @therivercrow go terf, get nerfed?
@stefanie @ASprinkleofSage @therivercrow
They already think they're nerfed, though. -

@therivercrow I both love this as like a FU to TERFs in general. But also the phrase "conses of your quences" is gonna stick with me, thank you for that.
I wish the new rowing club much success and joy!

@therivercrow never thought I'd see quences getting consesd, yet here we are.
(I'm all for this)

@anne_twain @NinjaDebugger @Karen5Lund @therivercrow
Yup. Sports like tennis and shooting that intentionally have different formats for different genders (e.g. 3 games per set vs 5) so you can't compare athletes, should be shamed out of it. And an "open" class is imvho often a good way forward from status quo. -

@burnitdown @therivercrow aww, I appreciate the kind words!
I was a classicist in a previous life, now I just do Greek & Latin for fun. Always happy to make an attempt at translating stuff into either. -
