@CDubbs This happened at the library where I used to work. One of us looked out the window of our meeting room, and there in the brush, almost invisible unless you actively looked for it, was a little fawn, all curled up. We didn't know that mama deer sometimes do this, so we called the wildlife people, and they told us to just leave it alone, she'd come back for it. And she did.

@lmgenealogy Yeah, she swung through at dusk last night to pick up her kid from the garden 🙂

These are the first couple I got from behind my car and from the second floor. You can just see an ear sticking up.

A UPS driver walked right up that sidewalk to deliver a package. At first I thought it was a rabbit.

They ate all my flowers on that side...

@CDubbs That reminds me of the time that three #deer (half-grown, maybe? Or maybe adult females?) walked up to the bushes right outside our front window and started munching on them (I think there was a drought that year - maybe other food sources were scarce?). And our two #German_Shepherds are lying on the floor on the inside side of the window, completely oblivious. I told them they would be complete failures as hunting #dogs.

@lmgenealogy Yeah, my dogs go nuts. They're all over the place here. The last one is munching the vines outside my kitchen window last summer while I was still renovating.

@andrew Yeah, they're normally larger flowering plants, so a lot of ground cover.

@michaelgemar There are deer all over town, and they're kind of used to people. Neighbors were talking on their front porch and this one was sleeping. I was maybe 10 feet or so.

@CDubbs @lmgenealogy Sorry about the flowers. Some years the deer will come through and get my rose buds. I got lucky and they didn't eat them this year.

That's actually a pretty common thing for mother deer to do. They leave the baby in some place they consider safe enough and then they go browse in the area nearby. i once found a fawn like that in my front yard, while the mother was on the other side of the house about 100 meters away!

@CDubbs aha - I almost stepped on one just like that while backwoods hiking once! I was careful to divert around it after seeing it right in front of me, but it did a very good job of keeping still while its mom was presumably off at her meeting or appointment.
