@globalmuseum@HolgerH hier gibt es viele Ruinen, wo sie ungestört nisten können. Die alten, halb verfallenen Granithäuser haben viele Spalten zwischen den Natursteinen. Schätze, dass die Fledermäuse auch da wohnen.

Yeah, with no way to clean these out, they’ll quickly fill up and be useless.

@colinstu @baardhaveland @globalmuseum a couple sites I'm seeing are broadly claiming "very clean birds"... but very clearly do not explicitly claim "no need to clean ever". suspiciously so.
e.g. actionforswifts.com has an FAQ with:
> Q: Do they require maintenance?
> A: Swifts bring in a very small amount of nest material, which is then reduced by invertebrates over the winter. Other birds may bring in more nest material, but they always leave some space. It is not unusual for Swifts to nest on top of a sparrow’s nest.
... which is rather pointedly not answering the question.
