    @augebbs @EUCommission

    The segment doesn't need to be comparable for the point to be accurate. I have a significant expertise in machine learning and software development. Android is a Linux distribution by the way.

    @traveling_mike @EUCommission Well it does, because your point is not reasonable. You’re comparing a group of two with another group of hundreds, and these groups are not the same.

    Cool profession, I know many just like you. Sure, Android runs on Linux kernel, just like 60-80% of everything else, from servers to printer machines 🙂

    You know what I meant, the userland. Calling Android a Linux distro is a stretch and you know it.

      @augebbs @EUCommission.

      The group doesn't matter, again you're missing the point. As far as Android being a Linux distribution? The Linux Foundation doesn't agree with you. Google adds a layer to Android for its purposes, but Android is quite usable without that layer.

        @EUCommission it's not for you to choose what options a provider give us. If we trust Apple to give us the right choice, it should be our choice as consumer to buy their products with the feature set complete.

        You meddling with a free market and telling a private enterprise how they should build their products is a scary thing for a regulatory body to do.

        let the market choose on its own.

        @webjac @EUCommission Your understanding of "free market" is flawed. A free market can't regulate itself; those who play maliciously and unfairly will almost always dominate the market not because consumers chose it, but because they were forced and manipulated into it.

        You want a full feature set? Go complain to Apple about it. What the EU regulation demands could've easily been done by Apple; it is not even more effort, just a slightly different way of doing things. But Apple actively decides against it; they want to monopolize the market.

        You can't call a market a free market if its gatekeeped by a few major companies.

          @traveling_mike @EUCommission But it does, because we are discussing whether or not it should be a rule, to be able to choose from more than one option.

          I’m pretty sure that the Linux foundation cares for open source infrastructure, and now that Android is planning to make it harder to side-load apps - we need alternatives more than ever.

            @webjac @EUCommission That’s exactly the point, to be able to have the choice to select which AI we get to use on our devices, and if Siri is actually the best and the most privacy focused, people will choose it. This time, Apple is not allowing people to make that choice. They are actively limiting features to a whole region to keep their control over their products, like they have already done with iPhone mirroring, for example.

            @Ombligoelemento @webjac @EUCommission probably because they did a risk analysis and concluded that the EU would come after them if they released it. They are responding to the reality of the EU approach and don’t want a fight. Which is probably a sound business decision.

              1. It's American slang.

              2. The right to bear arms is a universal, inalienable right every country in the world should give it's citizens.

              3. That's your impression of me. I've seen instances where citizens in the UK and Germany have been punished for certain statements online.

              Ultimately, this world is just fucked up. But, I do wonder what part the EU plays in adopting central bank roles related to fascism and propaganda?

              Nah, I think we'll pass on this. We are more for the right to arm bears.

              This statement, with the visa situation for the World Cup being what it is, cannot avoid being ironic. Unintendedly so, in your case, of course.

                          I think I'll rather loop back to the beginning of our conversation: Yes, by all means, please stay in the US. Don't come to Europe.

                          Though I pity your fellow citizen.

                          > You find the exit before you can answer my question!

                          There was no question. But guess what: I don't owe you a conversation. Of course this applies vice versa.

                          And since we are free-speeching and speaking on the record: Your attitude and your beliefs make me want to puke [1]. And I suspect not only me, even some of your fellow citizens.

                          Thankfully not all US-Americans are like you. And not all Americans are US-Americans (this also for the record, since US-citizens seem often take it as granted that the USA equals "America").

                          And now simmer in your Republican filter bubble. We in Europe don't want any of your icky politics here. We might not have perfect politics, but at least it isn't this icky.

                          <shakes head>

                          [1] One of the reasons why this is so, is that you gun fetishists appear put your right "to bear arms" over children's right to physical integrity. Which should go completely counter to core US-American values, but those don't matter in the endorphin rush of firing a gun.

                              <shakes head>

                              [1] One of the reasons why this is so, is that you gun fetishists appear put your right "to bear arms" over children's right to physical integrity. Which should go completely counter to core US-American values, but those don't matter in the endorphin rush of firing a gun.

                              You have no idea what my beliefs are because you link me to mainstream conservatism. Please never compare me to anything related to the Republican party. You're way in over your head.

                                Oh God. What a fool I am. I am talking to somebody who is on the Fediverse since 2 weeks and working for effing law enforcement in the US.

                                Everything becomes so much clearer now.

                                Good bye, good sir. You have a lot to learn about the free internet. Please think back to this moment, when learning hits you like a stack of brick in the coming months.

                                  @LinuxBSD @EUCommission the size of the fines will likely increase significantly before then. The EU can fine apple up to about 10% of annual global TURNOVER for noncompliance with the DMA. They can really make apple hurt.

                                  I'll believe it when I see it.

                                  What normally happens is the money gets what it wants.

                                    @zopyx @EUCommission they are literally creating business opportunities. That is the whole puprose of the DMA. Please read the laws you criticise.

                                      Believing that the two options are the only options is not just a logical fallacy but a mental deficiency that enables uniparties to kayfabe the two choices. This too can be voted out of, but only if the populace acts out of intention rather than fear.
