I mean, presumably they didn't ever vote illegally because they never signed the affidavits, so their stunt was a failure to begin with. But the article is unclear on his they got caught.

I mean, it gives plenty of clues: workers flagged their behavior, then as you note they refused to sign the affadavit, and then they did it at multiple polling places so it’s easy to imagine an internal investigation kicking off from that. I’m sure we’ll learn more if/when it goes to trial.
