@thomasfuchs @FediTips it is regrettable an ethical source license hasn’t yet become a thing, but otherwise there is pretty much no value in this comparison. Actively participating in a business that caters to the fash is not the same as the fash choosing to pick the free and open source technology you use off of the shelf (though admittedly I’m not very up to date on the state of bluesky’s federation situation, but last I understood it was laughable). If Mastodon the org start filing feature requests for truth social though, I’d certainly like to hear

The thing is, that Mastodon has not been very welcoming to many, for example to Black people; Black people started a big community on Bluesky including their own federated servers (as far as the protocol allows).
I understand the anger (and I have blocked all gov accounts on Bluesky myself and keep yelling at the ownership) but I'm also urging some caution of what gets demonized.

@thomasfuchs @FediTips for sure, and I absolutely recognise that mastodon has caused harms to people. But also I think there is space to talk about {the harms a community of users on a platform are causing} and {the harms the owners and developers of a platform are causing}, and talking about where and when those may not be equivalent and where the power is. I am nervous about where the power is in Bluesky, and am concerned it will ultimately, as it did on twitter, cause problems for those communities who have found a home there. Every time Bluesky has done something like this, people have shouted, and as far as I’ve seen, the slide has continued. Do you anticipate it changing?

If you mean Blacksky, that is something totally separate from Bluesky and I'm not criticising Blacksky at all. Blacksky have gone out of their way to separate themselves from Bluesky, even when Bluesky wasn't providing them with the necessary tools.
I wish Blacksky all the good luck I can, and would encourage people to support Blacksky.
And yes, more needs to be done for moderation tools on Mastodon. GoToSocial has done more in this regard.

Truth Social is a totally independent fascist site with no connections to any other networks.
It got caught stealing code from Mastodon while claiming to have written it themselves, but it has no other connection to Mastodon.
