So... OpenAI won't release ChatGPT 6 for now because it's "too dangerous" or "unaligned".

So... OpenAI won't release ChatGPT 6 for now because it's "too dangerous" or "unaligned". Given Sam Altman's history, I have a hard time believing that he'd voluntarily pass on any chance to increase profits, public safety be damned.
A much more plausible explanation IMHO is that it's just not noticeably better that GPT-5 in any way, diminishing returns, model collapse, etc., and that's just a really bad look if you want to IPO soon?

@floe Maybe this.
Maybe there are people at OpenAI that feel actually responsible.
Maybe they fear legal repercussions for releasing a product that has been proven unsafe.
Maybe the decision is based on of all of the above? -
