Red is spending, green is revenue.
@GossiTheDog I'm surprised that Anthropic's revenue is so close to the bottom. The boss recently bought me an individual Claude subscription and it's been great (I can do 9 times more than with the free version). But there's no way in hell we'd pay real money for any of the others.

During Gold Rush era San Francisco, the two types of people who actually got rich were grifters defrauding people, and those selling shovels and other gear to hopeful would be miners.

@GossiTheDog Seems like the startups have figured out they can beat the established giants by getting them to bankrupt themselves.

@GossiTheDog Yes, those green bars are much bigger than in reality because of this. In their disclaimer section:
> The AI economy is circular: Google funds Anthropic, Anthropic runs on Google Cloud, Amazon funds Anthropic, Microsoft co-invests with OpenAI. This means aggregate industry figures double-count some revenue flows.

@GossiTheDog I guess Nvidia is pretty happy as-is but I do wonder if we won't see issues for them too down the line - the more expensive/unavailable hardware becomes the more the consumer market will adapt to this new ceiling, countries that have been talking about hardware dependency will start manufacturing chips and so on. We will see.

@GossiTheDog ? When companies or concepts start up, isn't spending always going to be > than revenue? You're supposed to be building a product (sw, hw, a human being) so the initial outlay will be bigly greater.
What am I not seeing? AI is bad. It's released like Bill Gates released his prototype product that I don't think ever went off without a bunch of glitches. TEST first for months or years then release the damn product unless you want a bunch of stupid/ignorant ppl ... (hey, a goal).

That companion piece is missing Anthropic and some of the recent moves there. Still pretty enlightening. It's crazy the amount of money that's getting shifted around -

@GossiTheDog this is quite interesting, what are we thinking when the penny finally drops? NVIDIA go down? They’re about the only ones with actual assets, albeit depreciating ones. But surely their stock is inflated?

@GossiTheDog It is quite profitable. For Nvidia. Not so much for all the others.

@GossiTheDog It's a huge gamble. I think AI will create enormous value, but enough to justify company's valuations? I really hope so. I don't know.
