So, boosts.
In a world without algorithms, we rely on boosts to get 'out there'. And when I see something I like, I want to share it.
However -- when others see something they like, they share it too. I get annoyed when I see the same post for the 19th time. Then I worry that I annoy people by sharing.
Is there any way to turn off seeing the same post more than once? That way, knowing that it's possible, I'd worry less about sharing.

@lbheuschkel I use Ivory which has a Hide Duplicate Boost option, I’m not completely sure if this option is related to my profile on the sever or just in the app.

@lbheuschkel Mastodon preferences > Other
Make sure "Group boosts in timelines" is checked. That should keep duplicates to a minimum, based on recency. -

@lbheuschkel Man kan også slå trending posts fra, under "appearance" > "discovery".

@lbheuschkel I'm one of those that gets annoyed if the original/shared content ratio gets too low.
That is a me-problem.
Happily Mastodon has an option to disable boosts per user I follow. So if someone shares a lot, but still posts some interesting stuff between the shares, then I just disable boosts for that user.
So continue to Share and enjoy like you are the Sirius Cybernetics Coorporation Complaints Division.

There is already a built-in system which stops you seeing the same boost, but unfortunately it's currently hardwired to allow the boost to reappear after 40 other posts have scrolled through your timeline.
This worked okay in the days when Mastodon was a lot quieter, but nowadays it's much busier so 40 posts isn't very much any more.
There's a guide here about this topic and what to do about it: https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-stop-seeing-the-same-boosted-post-again-and-again-in-mastodon/

p.s. By the way, don't worry too much about annoying people by sharing, they can turn off your shares if they want to: https://fedi.tips/blocking-and-muting-on-the-fediverse/#JustBoosts
