@deelion My brain is happy. I've not ever thought of myself neurodivergent, but I have some quirks which make me wonder sometimes if I don't have some divergences. 🙂

@nomdeb Glad your brain is happy, neurodivergent or not! I'd never really considered it myself until a few years ago when people started talking about it more, and realised I ticked a lot of boxes!

@deelion yes, I like that beat. 4/4 is great and all, but it is nice to hear something different.

@temporal_spider It is! I need to do some research and try to find some more electronic tracks in different timings - I did maybe 5 minutes searching before just making my own (I think I was looking for an excuse!)

@deelion I have always enjoyed watching a floor of Lindy Hop dancers when confronted with "Take Five". Only a few understand why everything is failing so badly.

Alas, few Lindy dancers are also zweifachers.

@oddhack I rediscovered a metal band recently that I took photos of at gigs several times years ago - they were pretty heavy, with a lot of beat changes. It was a somewhat similar experience to your Lindy Hop dancers, watching a room full of metalheads trying to work out how to headbang to it!

@deelion I’ve always loved odd meters. Paul Desmond’s solo on “Take Five” makes me happy, but then it makes everyone happy so that may not prove anything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT9Eh8wNMkw

@Virginicus ah yes, the theory may be flawed if actually just everyone likes it 😅

For what it's worth (my brain has a complicated relationship with music), I'm autistic and this makes my brain intensely uncomfortable 😬
Probably this is one of my least favourite genres though so I would be interested to hear other examples, I might go see what YouTube can offer.. 🤔

Oh no problem, I'm used to music disturbing my brain 😅 I had a bit of a melt down in an Irish pub once because the music just had too many things happening at once 🙃

@deelion @nomdeb yeah, I read once that one of the things about jazz, prog and math rock that makes brains happy is an element of challenge, at following the rhythm. Air drumming, tapping, or even just counting along in your head, is a lot easier to get a “similar” performance to for a non-musician than guitar or keyboards.

Which is effectively what Guitar Hero amounted to 😀

Love your tune, that’s lush that is 😎

@WiteWulf @nomdeb Thanks! And that makes a lot of sense - my brain pretty much just stops doing anything else and fixates on it like a little puzzle. It's definitely not the best to put on while you're trying to work 😅

Is "Take five" your favourite jazz standard?

@deelion "Read About It" and "Short Memory" by Midnight Oil both have great, different-than-most-rock-music time signatures in parts of each song, if you are looking for more samples to test the theory.

@deelion Different vibes, but I've seen people classify the time signature both as 5/16 and as 10/16, so I guess that counts as unusual?
