The analyst behind this essay thinks there's no way the AI data centre boom can be profitable. I looked at their expectations and … they're optimistic: those number crunchers in the data centres won't depreciate over 3-5 years, they'll be obsolete inside 18 months!

https://awful.systems/comment/9041013@cstross I think the people currently riding this train - from Altman & Amodei to Nvidia, Google & Microsoft, as well as all the investors, of course - are so used to fabricating money out of thin air, simply by saing ever-larger numbers as if they're magic incantations, that they think this will just happen ad infinitum; that the world will simply keep creating money until their gamble pays off.
