@jwcph since possibility of 2nd hand or non-Fender was introduced, I would like to raise awareness of late '70s to mid '80s Japanese Strats. Some good wood, some very well made. Approaching vintage and arguably better than Fender was making at that specific time.
Fernandes Revival
Greco Super Sounds
Yamaha Super RollerLots of different models under these names

@InarticulateOtter Thank you, good input! I have been hearing similar things - including that Squier of those decades can be really good, too.
I was already playing back then - I saw Squier & G&L hit the market (my high school music room had a G&L strat) & at the time we thought that those "off-brand" Fenders were just cheap-ass knockoffs. Apparently, however, at least some of them very much weren't.

@jwcph I think you need to give at least some indication of budget to get a sensible answer.
Japanese second hand 80s/90s
Fender Ultra Luxe Vintage
PRS SE Silver Sky
A Suhr
Build a good partscaster
Lots of options! -

Lots of options!@optilude You are, of course, right about budget - I'm thinking something around or south of 1500€. Probably.

@jwcph if it were me I’d look at Fender American Vintage II or PRE SE Silver Sky. But there are many many options.

@optilude I've definitely been thinking about the Silver Sky, it has a good rep & I already have a PRS I'm very happy with (the cheapo CE model
)...
