@jwcph Sadly, you are not wrong... Some people believe no one has ever helped them, so no one deserves their help... and that "everyone needs to make it on their own" and there are no hand-outs and no assistance should be offered to those in need.
Those people were hurt, broken, and I wish they could see how we are all connected.

@rasterweb Some of those people are just miserable assholes whose first act upon ascending a ladder is to kick it over so nobody else can climb up to their level & I wish the world would ignore them, rather than lionize them for being self-made heroes - but yes to the general sentiment.
