You know what's really cool? Sociable eels in small streams on a university campus in New Zealand.

@sundogplanets glad they aren’t the fabled killer eels I saw on a signpost in Matakana, New Zealand yesterday

@sundogplanets With the lack of scale reference I am forced to assume this is a huge river monster, the likes of which I was genuinely kind-of afraid of every time I was near a stream as a kid 😂 I think there was a children's show or something about a boy catching an enormous, monstrous eel 🤔

@jwcph @sundogplanets Biggest eel I encountered was in 1976 and circa. 5 feet long. I was 15. We caught it after it bit me on the calf crossing a stagnant section of river in Kerikeri, NZ. We took a photo of it with its head cut off and held level with my eyes and its tail an inch or so off the ground. Still have the scar. 😖

Eels are bigger than I thought!

@sundogplanets I remember seeing Jeremy Wade's episode of River Monsters on them. NZ eels are pretty special, especially for Māori
