  3. I really dislike that even if you choose not to use "AI" you'll be affected by it, for example software quality will go down even more because interface design will get lazier as "AI" is added instead of designing processes in the software better.

Already seeing this is in various consumer-facing software when it delegates you to a chatbot to find a function instead of making things easily discoverable.

It's sort of like driving a car and instead of a lever to put it in reverse you have to type on a keyboard "please put in the reverse gear".

@thomasfuchs The CAD industry has never made any effort in 50 years to come up with good UI. It's all flippy switches and little knobs you have to turn with a screwdriver hidden behind flip down panels.

@thomasfuchs Is that a reference to Tesla replacing the gear shift lever with “AI” + touchscreen?

@thomasfuchs Last year I rented a car and the first night I was driving it over really bad mountain roads I had to realise that tuning the lights was no longer instant but it took close to 2 seconds while they were f..king fading up or down. It was not deactivateable and I had to live with it. The ride was pure hell of course.
Not sure if AI was involved but at least someone who never drives a car.

@thomasfuchs or apps which load AI models even if you don't use them, use more memory/cpu.

Think this is what cause my laptop to go slow today

@thomasfuchs or how you have to use voice command in recent mercedes to skip a song without fumbling with the screen, instead of just pressing a button on the steering wheel

@thomasfuchs indeed. I was looking at an EV on a web page today and it had a leasing price/month. So I wanted the details and tapped the price. A chat opens up! What the hey! It's exactly what you're describing.

So I never found out about the price details. I left it be, because I don't want start typing with a poorly conceived chatbot.

@thomasfuchs More like "please apply the brakes" while heading for a wrecked semi & then you have to re-prompt it three times because it keeps hallucinating breaks & rakes & cakes...
