@Elektrotier @remaster But in Sweden the number of bottle caps on beaches increased dramatically after bottle caps started to be attached.
This diagram is the number of plastic caps per 100m beach.
@ahltorp
Do you know how the studie has been made ? @Elektrotier @remaster -
@remaster
Yes, great! Here's my proposal for the 200€ bill.@magezwitscher put it on the 5, so its more visable to everyday usage. i cant remember when i ever had a 200 in my hands.

@ahltorp @Elektrotier @remaster
Wait? What? No, why?@bill88t @Elektrotier @remaster The total amount of plastic caps found has gone down in Sweden though (62% fewer per square meter in 2025 compared to 2023).
The reason the west beaches of Sweden (Skagerrak, Kattegat and the Sound) are so littered with plastic caps is not fully known according to the report by "Håll Sverige Rent" (Keep Sweden Clean). They know that some people are very bothered with the caps, and that this might mean that they tear the caps off and throw them away.

@remaster I used to not like these caps, but recently I lost a Rivella (Swiss) cap, and mourn it since.

Yes, great! Here's my proposal for the 200€ bill.@magezwitscher @remaster Can I please get a full #Euro notes set with GDPR, AI-Act, Right to Repair, Investigation into right-wing partys and ... what should be the others? Maybe #Schrems2, #Schrems3inthemaking

@bill88t @Elektrotier @remaster They also speculate that they could come from other countries, including the UK, where caps are not required to be attached.
I have only found information in Swedish about this but here is the report (in Swedish):

The 500€ should feature "Roam like at home". -

@willi
Actually, I think a cookie banner would be more suitable for the 5€ bill. 🤭 -
@ahltorp
Do you know how the studie has been made ? @Elektrotier @remaster@francoismandil No, no details, but is was made by a very reputable Swedish organisation that specialises in reducing litter. I only have the report and a news article about it, both unfortunately only available in Swedish:

Yes, great! Here's my proposal for the 200€ bill.@remaster@mastodon.social @magezwitscher@det.social you’ll want to have “universal standard charging directive” in more than just English since euro notes are multilingual but other than that extremely important post-ruining oversight (/s) I love it

It's funny, but in all honesty, I don't get it why people are so furious about these bottle caps. I visited the EU in 2024, and the first time I bought a drink with one of these, I thought to myself, "huh, interesting, and quite convenient actually".

@willi @magezwitscher I don't see how that makes it less applicable. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's the point.

@remaster nice for lefties, but a lot of Europeans hate this kind of caps.

@keesjanb@mastodon.vlaanderen @remaster@mastodon.social The cap is actually great, but there are bottles with shitty caps that's too lose. The right cap is just tight enough that it basically 'clicks' open and stays in place and won't ever cover the hole when you pour out your drink.

@remaster
The number of times I accidentally spilt water over myself while drinking increased a lot thanks to this bs...
And some of the water bottles at work have an especially shitty cap that you cannot properly close again w/o ripping the cap off first.
And the scratches to lips and nose...
Thanks to all the idiots that threw their waste into the environment.
Well... At least this didn't break our Reverse Vending Machine software. Was seeing me adapting our bottle detection to this abomination for weeks on end already when those came out...

@CatboyCody Yeah, probably some variants of this are cheaply made and lousy design.

@sillyCoelophysis maybe i am to invested in what was supposed to be shitposting, - but seeing what @noybeu is working on and how bigtech noW wants to "save" the cookie banner maybe makes it a good 5eur bill, but i doubt that everybody in the EU would know the latest of this charade.
