No problem. When a train breaks down and has to be evacuated the journey can be continued from the last station reached. When a station is evacuated because of an unexploded bomb from WW2, one is allowed to leave the station temporarily and continue the journey later. If defusing the bomb fails and the station is in ruins, it should be allowed to wait until the station is rebuilt and service resumed. -
Starting next week ERPU co-founder and board member @jon is going for a new world record: the fastest time on the longest uninterrupted rail journey in Europe! 6281.6km of train travel from Kemijärvi, Finland to Lagos, Portugal.
You can find all of the details on his website: https://crossborderrail.eu/longestjourney/ — and of course we will be following and cheering him on here as well.
Good luck Jon!
@erpu @jon wow, I'd love to to do that tour myself at some point. How many times do you have to switch between Hamburg and Barcelona?
EDIT: found the timetable on your web page, thanks! Whew, this is quite a journey. Sadly I can't join you in Hamburg for the dinner due to another commitment, would have loved to touch base. Sent you a small tip to support this venture, hope it helps!

What fun!
For the Americans watching, for comparison, U.S. Amtrak train from Seattle through Chicago through New York to Miami, a distance of 4742 rail miles (7632 km), over almost exactly 100 hours of rail time. Seattle to Miami is about 2730 miles (about 4400 km) as the crow flies.
And of course, the whole journey is inside one country.
