And this is why we don't use Meta's products.
Meta has closed the Threads account for a project running citizens' initiative for digital independence from US companies.

I think the project has been up for, what, about two days, and already now the account is closed.

@henrik I mean, they have a right to close down any "competitors". It's like if Target setup a stall in Wallmart urging all the customers to leave and/or use their store instead.
The issue here isn't that a capitalist venture is closing down accounts, but that the accounts were there in the first place.

Sure, of course they have the right, it's their service. And this *exactly* is why we don't use it.

Don't know about that, probably well in the TOS, but really don't care about the details. It's just that it's possible. And probable. So I'd rule out the whole service because of that.

@thanius @henrik Now argue for their right to give money to government officials to support their business model, their right to use their market dominance to crush competitors, and their right to use their near-monopoly status to privilege right-wing messaging while deplatforming or canceling accounts spreading left-wing messages, to influence elections. It's all legal, after all.

@henrik yeah, I have zero Meta accounts, never have, never will. Fuck Zuck.

@guyjantic It is legal, that's why boycott is the only way to go as @henrik mentioned. You gotta get friends and family to leave the platform in favor for better ones, such as the Fediverse. If people come, the people will follow.
